Not a Single Star Wars Outlaws Player Has Unlocked Their Own Fathier Yet

The community is wondering as to why that's the case.

No matter how good or bad a video game is, if at least a thousand players are playing it, chances are it has a small but dedicated community of "one-hundred-percenters" willing to sink hundreds of hours into exploring every nook and cranny, uncovering every single secret, and extracting every last drop of content before ever moving on to another game. It seems, however, that Star Wars Outlaws' ultra-completionists have been slacking, as according to Ubisoft's recent dev blog, there's still a hidden racing secret that no one, not a single SWO player has uncovered just yet.

Ubisoft/RPS

In the blog post, Outlaws' Game Director Thibaut Machin, who, besides numerous other things, was also in charge of the title's mini-games, discussed the in-game Fathier Racing – a classic horse racing and betting activity with a Star Wars twist – explaining why the team believed this mechanic was a perfect fit for the game.

More interesting, though, was the secret Machin revealed in his closing remarks, stating that as of the blog post's publication on December 18, 2024, not a single player had unlocked their own fathier, something that, according to the Game Director, can be achieved by completing a series of short quests scattered around betting stations, which would supposedly "reveal an additional quest that brings Kay back to Toshara for a special opportunity."

While it's obviously impossible for anyone outside of Ubisoft to either confirm or deny that, the lack of information online about getting and/or owning a fathier or Fathier Racing in general – besides numerous repetitive, copy-paste "guides" on how the races are rigged and how you can easily win them – seems to confirm Machin's statement.

Out of everything shared in the blog post, this particular tidbit got the community buzzing, with numerous gamers now discussing why no one has their own fathier nearly four months after the game's launch. Some argue that Star Wars Outlaws' low player numbers (fewer than 1,500 24-hour concurrent users peak on SteamDB at the time of writing) and general lack of interest are the reasons, while others compare Outlaws to games like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, where secrets continued to surface years after their release.

While both suggestions have their merits, one theory that keeps coming up is that the questline is simply bugged, and even if players were to complete all the necessary steps, they wouldn't receive their own fathier due to a simple oversight by the developers. Another possible explanation the community has put forward is that Ubisoft's algorithms, which Machin used to determine whether the feat was accomplished, do not track offline players, and the studio simply cannot view their progress.

A fringe theory, stemming from the ambiguity of Machin's wording and the unclear meaning of "acquiring their own fathier," is that the Game Director intentionally shared this tidbit to generate hype for the game. This would align with Steam's ongoing Winter Sale and Outlaws being available with a 35% discount, a fact that seemingly has already helped the game reach the aforementioned 1,500 concurrent users.
