November's After Effects Release Adds Single 3D Gizmo To Control Multiple 3D Layers

After Effects 25.6 keeps enhancing 3D workflows, with even more improvements on the way in the beta.

Adobe

For more than a year, Adobe has been steadily expanding the 3D capabilities of its industry-standard motion graphics software. After Effects 25.6 keeps that going, focusing on better stability and performance, fixing a bunch of bugs, and also adding some workflow tweaks.

Previously, each 3D layer had its own gizmo. In After Effects 25.6, you can select multiple 3D layers and manipulate them together using a single, unified 3D gizmo. Also, you can use the View menu to adjust the custom view and Default Camera Settings, whether viewing through a camera layer, the default active camera, or a custom view.

Now every day, the app provides a quick tip that helps you learn something new with the Tip of the Day feature, created in collaboration with After Effects users who shared their favorite workflow tips and time-saving tricks.

You can explore all the other changes, including a long list of bug fixes, in the release notes. And if you're curious about what's on the horizon, the After Effects 26 public beta is already teasing some curious new features.

These include the Parametric Mesh tool for creating simple 3D primitive shapes, support for Substance 3D Materials, four new effects, and a new lossless compressed playback system.
