NVIDIA is set to acquire Hugging Face, the open-source AI platform, in a deal worth $12,930,300,000. CEO Jensen Huang shared the news in a blog post, calling Hugging Face "a vibrant home for the open model developer community" built over the past decade by its founders and team.
The platform's scale is hard to ignore: more than 18 million developers, researchers, and creators use Hugging Face to share over 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications. Beyond individual users, more than 200,000 companies rely on it to discover, evaluate, customize, and deploy AI systems.
Huang emphasized that Hugging Face will keep its open structure intact. "NVIDIA compute will not be required to build on or deploy through Hugging Face," he wrote, noting that developers will still choose their preferred models, frameworks, clouds, and hardware. The CEO also revealed that Hugging Face co-founder Clem Delangue approached him directly while weighing the platform's future, viewing NVIDIA as a fitting next step for the company and its community. The Hugging Face team will continue operating under its familiar branding.
NVIDIA, for its part, has long contributed to the platform, having released more than 500 open models and 250 datasets on Hugging Face to date.
