Olympic Medalists Aim for Gold in League of Legends Too

Noah Lyles and Pau Echaniz know what to do between runs.

Have you ever wondered what Olympic athletes do when they aren't busy preparing for competitions? Some of them prefer a different kind of thrill in video games like League of Legends.

For example, canoeist Pau Echaniz, who earned a bronze medal at the Olympic Games 2024, has big plans for the MOBA: "I won’t get on a canoe until I reach gold," he jokingly said on X/Twitter (thanks, NME.)

He is not alone; sprinter Noah Lyles shared the sentiment with a "This bout to be me after the 4x100m" comment. It seems like competitive people are competitive everywhere, but it pays off – Lyles won gold for a 100m sprint and bronze for 200m. Hopefully, he has similarly impressive results in League of Legends as well.

"Fastest man in the world plays League... Rammus main confirmed," the official LoL X/Twitter account replied, which is a cool achievement already. But this is not the only fandom Lyles enjoys. Celebrating his gold victory, he did Goku's Kamehameha pose, and before that, he pulled out a Yu-Gi-Oh! card.

Lyles, unfortunately, didn't run the 4x100m sprint due to COVID, but I hope he at least had some progress in League. And who knows, maybe he will also one day become a medalist in the esports Olympics, which should take place for the first time in 2025.
