The Open 3D Foundation released Open 3D Engine 22.10 – an update to its open-source 3D development engine based on Amazon Web Services’ Lumberyard engine.
One of the biggest changes is a new Terrain system, which is now in preview. It offers larger-scale worlds with "significant performance improvements" for editing and runtime/rendering. According to the patch notes, the system can handle 16kmx16km worlds and beyond at high framerates.
The new version also offers a new Sky Atmosphere and Stars components, the latter providing physically-based animated resolution-independent distant stars.
Other changes include improvements to the client-server connection, debugging, and network spawning in multiplayer, animation import, root motion extraction, and motion matching.
