Optimized Round Planet Volumetrics Set Up in Unity

Developer ARTnGAME demonstrated a WiP system for creating volumetric clouds, lighting, shadowing, and atmosphere around spherical planet bodies.

Video Game Designer and Developer ARTnGAME, known for creating impeccable Unity assets, has demonstrated a new work-in-progress system that, once complete, will allow you to set up ultra-realistic volumetrics around spherical bodies.

This time, the developer showed an optimized Unity-powered round planet volumetrics system for creating volumetric clouds, lighting, shadowing, and atmosphere around planet-like bodies. According to the developer, the system's clouds are calculated in a shader in GPU and applied as a URP (or HDRP) native image effect, with the lightning light and the light casting on the cloud volume also embedded in the shader. The creator also commented that the system is very tweakable and customizable, allowing one to adjust many of its parameters, such as the duration and frequency of bolts of lightning, their position, and more.
