Original Red Dead Redemption is Coming to PS4 & Switch

Not today, PC gamers.

Rockstar has officially announced that the original 2010 Red Dead Redemption and its zombie-themed DLC Undead Nightmare are coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17, 2023.

The game, originally launched only for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, is being ported to PS4 and Switch by UK developer Double Eleven Studios. Notably, PlayStation 5 owners will also have the convenience of enjoying the game through backwards compatibility. It's important to clarify that this port is neither a remaster nor a remake, which most likely puts an end to various RDR-related speculations and rumors.

On the digital storefronts, such as the Nintendo Switch eShop and PlayStation Store, the game will be priced at $49.99. For those who prefer physical copies, the physical versions are set to arrive on October 13.

And here are some PS4 screenshots shared by the team:

Prior to the announcement, the Internet was speculating about the possibility of a remake/remaster for Red Dead Redemption. The entire "RDR Remaster" gossip began circulating in 2022, triggered by reports of Rockstar's cancellation of remasters for Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto IV due to the negative feedback received for GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

The speculation was reinvigorated and gained new momentum in June when the title received a fresh rating from The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea, with the classification number "CC-NV-230615-001", indicating its status as a console game.

In July, the rumor got strengthened yet again when Rockstar unveiled a slightly altered logo for RDR and included the title "Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar Presents Ver)" in their list of games.

It appears, however, that instead of a remake or remaster, or at least a PC port, Rockstar has been working on PS4/Switch versions of the game all this time, a revelation that will most likely disappoint thousands of gamers worldwide.
