"I’m really going back to my roots!"
Volition
The 2022 reboot of Saints Row was a memorable disaster, leading to the developer, Volition, shutting down soon after.
Everyone thought it was the end of the franchise, but there's new hope: Chris Stockman, the design director for the first Saints Row game, announced that he'd been asked to present a pitch for the game's prequel.
"I can't say anything more than that but my dreams for this game just became a little more than just dreams!"
For the last 10 years, he's mostly worked on VR experiences at his studio, Bit Planet Games, but he emphasized that the prequel won't be in the VR space: "I’m really going back to my roots!"
Stockman told PCGamesN that he's "attempting to get the band back together," but don't get your hopes up too early: it's still very far away from production, even if the pitch gets approved.
Stockman says he's "trying to resurrect the franchise by doing a prequel" and wants "to take the series back to its core roots but also blend in some of stuff that people loved about SR2."
He approached the Saints Row IP holder, Embracer Group, "after the interview I did with Esports [Insider] created a bit of a fervor." He thinks the series "has strayed way too far away" from Saints Row 1: "I completely understand why they went that way but in the end they kind of painted themselves into a corner they couldn't get out of."
Hopefully, we will see a new SR game that can redeem the downfall of the reboot.
