Two weeks ago, the ChinaJoy 2024 gaming expo welcomed a variety of developers, including S-GAME, the creator of the samurai Soulslike mixed with Chinese cultural elements, Phantom Blade Zero. There, they stated that while the game will be released on PlayStation 5 in addition to PC and Sony helps to promote it, S-GAME doesn't have an exclusive deal with the console company and isn't limited in its platform choices.
One anonymous developer also reportedly said that Sony helps to optimize the game for PS5 as well as PC, and the Microsoft ecosystem is too complex for publishing games. Moreover, Xbox "does not find demand, especially in Asia" – a pretty controversial take, made worse by the gaming website GamePlaysCassi, which mistranslated the sentence into "nobody needs this platform."
S-GAME
Thankfully, the mistake has been rectified, but the bold message had spread pretty quickly, and S-GAME issued its official statement:
"We want to clarify that these claimed statements do not represent S-GAME’s values or culture, as we believe in making our game accessible to everyone and have not ruled out any platforms for Phantom Blade Zero."
The team is "hard at work" to make sure "as many players as possible can enjoy our game at release and in the future."
So we might find Phantom Blade Zero on Xbox one day, although probably not at launch, whenever it might be.
