In an interview with publisher Square Enix, PlatinumGames revealed that it will continue to support Babylon's Fall with the second season of content, despite no one playing it.
The Square Enix and PlatinumGames' online ARPG Babylon's Fall has had a terrible launch on PC showing one of the worst (if not the worst) performances for a project focused on a multiplayer game.
According to the SteamCharts data, the PC version of the game is losing its audience every month. In April, the average player count decreased by 85% to just 85 people, and in May this number dropped even more – by 55% reaching merely 39 people. The daily peak this month is also incredibly low – just 132 players.
More than that, on May 9, Babylon's Fall player count on PC dropped to zero, and at the time of writing, the 24-hour peak is just 27 people.
Despite the obvious underperformance of the game, however, PlatinumGames still plans to work on it. On the Square Enix website, the studio revealed that Season 2 is about to begin, bringing new locations, and weapons as well as making additional changes to the visual style of the game which was widely criticized by players.
"There are still many areas we have not done enough with yet, and many aspects that will be hard to change unless we focus our efforts," shared Babylon's Fall director Takahisa Sugiyama. "So I feel there is a great deal of room left for us to meet player expectations as we diligently continue to develop and improve the game."
Game directors Kenji Saito and Takahisa Sugiyama also admitted that it was the first time that they are working on a live service game, and therefore they are trying to listen to player feedback as much as possible while working on new content. "I think that player feedback has influenced us massively in terms of how to improve Babylon's Fall and make it more fun and exciting to play," Saito said.
The directors also shared that the team wasn't able to test graphics, especially the visual part, but promised to deliver more improvements to the game in the coming seasons based on players' feedback.
The second season of Babylon's Fall is coming very soon. In the meantime, PlatinumGames has already started working on Season 3.
