It Takes More Than 7,000 Steps to Climb High Hrothgar in Skyrim

YouTuber ShakeMistake tracked his real-life steps with an app and measured the famous journey.

YouTuber ShakeMistake, who measured the journey from Riften to Solitude by tracking his real-life steps and traveling in the game world, has conducted a new experiment and measured how many steps it takes to hike up Skyrim's 7,000 steps. Spoiler: it actually takes more!

In his video, ShakeMistake explained that he had to adjust the step size with some mods, as Skyrim's gameworld is much smaller than it is in the lore, and the number of steps would be smaller. He also used an inclined treadmill. In the comments to the post about the Riften to Solitude journey, he shared that he preferred not to use a treadmill because there's less control of a character. This time, the YouTuber decided to change his mind probably because the character was going up, and the treadmill's incline could create necessary conditions. The entire walk took about 1.5 hours.

It turned out that it takes 8,000 real-life steps to hike up the rise. However, ShakeMistake noted that without counting steps on any flat areas without an elevation change, the number would be close to 7,000.

The YouTuber shared that he used several mods, including Faerie Races (Sprite version)Racemenu, and Player Size Adjuster to make himself as small as possible to adjust the walking. After this, he used the command "player.setscale 3.5" to adjust for being too small and slow. Once he managed to achieve the smallest size without animation glitches in the game, I used an Android app Stepl. As in the previous journey, he turned off AI detection in the game to avoid possible interactions.
