Player Traveled Across Skyrim Map with Real-Life Steps

A Reddit user has measured the journey from Riften to Solitude.

A Reddit user known as ShakeMistake_ has tested how many steps it takes to walk from Riften to Solitude in Skyrim, tracking his own real-life walking and transferring it into the game.

ShakeMistake_ has posted a one-minute timelapse of a 2.5-hour challenge of walking across an entire Skyrim map. Surprisingly, the in-game character wasn't attacked while traveling for so long. The player explained that he turned off AI detection to avoid unexpected encounters. It took the player 14,000 steps over 2.5 hours with walking speed. With jogging speed, it took 5,000 steps over about 45 minutes. While 14,000 steps (around 11 kilometers or 7 miles) may not sound like a lot, considering that it is an entire country we're talking about, game-wise, the figure is indeed impressive.

The player shared that with such an experiment, he combines his love of video games and sports: "I love fitness and video games. A couple of years ago, I found a way to walk in place to play video games! It's no VR, but it's super accessible, and I think everyone should try it at least once!" He also underscores the benefit of such activity: "I genuinely want to help people improve their health!!"

To conduct this experiment, ShakeMistake_ used the Android app Stepl, which connects to your PC and presses W for you when you walk in place, as explained by the player. He has described the process in the video:

It's not the first time that ShakeMistake_ has walked into the games. He already posted several videos of him moving in real life to play the game:

The player also brings sports activity into GTA and Star Wars Outlaws. How about an exercise bike training?

Experiments in which players bring real-life actions into the game world always amaze us with their creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. For instance, another passionate player, PointCrow, tracked the movements of his pet goldfish and attributed them to keyboard buttons so that the fish "played" Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (and quite successfully).
