God of War Ragnarök players complain about overly talkative supporting characters who constantly give clues on how to solve puzzles without giving players time to find solutions themselves.
A number of recently-released games started to feature a considerable amount of hand-holding lately, with characters – either main or supporting – trying to guide players through puzzle-solving. For instance, this problem can be found in Horizon Forbidden West where Aloy is constantly talking to herself about puzzle solutions.
God of War Ragnarök which was released last week was met with praise from both press and players, however, despite all the positive moments, players have started to notice that the game features too many overly talkative supporting characters who constantly give clues on how to solve puzzles.
The key problem that players paid attention to is that Kratos' partners give their advice almost immediately, without giving players time to experiment, make mistakes, or invent a solution themselves. While there is an option in God of War Ragnarök settings where players can make the time of puzzle-solving longer, for a number of players, this extended time is still not enough.
Another issue that players noticed is that, in addition to puzzles, Kratos' companions also often help during battles in the form of reminding players of fire damage or advising them to use a shield against certain enemies. Players believe that this also spoils the experience of playing the game.
Unfortunately, currently, there is no option to turn directional voice lines off or, at least, make supporting characters in God of War Ragnarök less talkative. So, the only way to get through puzzles without overhelping companions, for now, is to disable subtitles and turn the volume off.
