The new console will allegedly be sold at a reduced price.
During the Microsoft vs. FTC hearing, a recently revealed document indicated that Microsoft has the belief that Sony is preparing to release a new version of the PlayStation 5 – referred to as PlayStation 5 Slim – sometime in 2023. This document, which was submitted by Microsoft as part of the case, suggests that the new console model is planned to be launched "later this year" at a lower price.
"PlayStation likewise sells a less expensive Digital Edition for $399.99, and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price point," reads the document.
Earlier, it was reported that Sony is in the process of developing an updated version of the PlayStation 5 console. This new iteration is rumored to feature a detachable disc drive and is anticipated to be released in September 2023. However, it remains uncertain whether this upcoming model and PS5 Slim are one and the same.
The document also briefly mentions "a handheld version of PlayStation 5", most likely referring to Project Q, a handheld device for streaming games from a PlayStation 5 using Remote Play over Wi-Fi, first shown during this year's PlayStation Showcase.
