PlayStation Studios Head On Sony's New Strategy & PC Ports of PlayStation Exclusives

PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst spoke about Sony's plans for PlayStation exclusives noting that PlayStation exclusives will be released on PC at least one year after their release on PlayStation.

In a recent interview with the YouTuber Julien Chièze, the head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst spoke about Sony's plans for PlayStation exclusives and reiterated that Sony intends to have more games released on PC and mobile platforms.

According to Hulst, however, Sony's new strategy doesn't mean that the company will release fewer PlayStation exclusives or replace PlayStation titles with PC games – instead, the games developed for other platforms will be just an extension of what the company is doing.

Speaking of Sony's plans for PC ports of its exclusives, Hulst stated that the company will continue to release its games on PC as this helps broaden the audience. He, however, noted that Sony doesn't plan to make simultaneous releases for PlayStation and PC. According to him, PlayStation exclusives will be released on PC at least one year after their release on PlayStation.

The exception here would be live service games, which Hulst believes should be promoted differently and ensure a solid player base from the start for further development.

Elsewhere in the interview, Hulst confirmed that there are a total of 25 games that are currently in development at internal PlayStation studios, adding that half of them are new franchises.

In an interview with Axios, Hulst detailed the company's plans regarding future games saying that Sony is actively experimenting with various types and genres. At the same time, the executive assured fans that the company does not plan to abandon the single-player narrative adventure games the company is famous for.

"We have a history and a reputation for building these incredible narrative-driven single-player games, such as The Last of Us and Horizon and the upcoming God of War Ragnarok," Hulst said. "We're also diversifying now. And we have stood up 12 projects in total in the live ops multiplayer space."

In addition, PlayStation Studios head noted that by selling PC versions, Sony can invest more in other big projects.
