Plot Twist: PlayStation Pushed Helldivers 2 to Xbox
It was Sony, not Arrowhead, that pitched the idea.
In early July, Helldivers 2 was unexpectedly announced for Xbox, with a release date set for August 26. Nixxes Software is handling the port.
Many fans assumed the decision came from internal pressure by the developers at Arrowhead, but CEO Shams Jorjani clarified in a Discord message that it was PlayStation’s idea all along.

Jorjani also called it one of the best moves PlayStation has made. "I think it’s one of the coolest things they’ve done. They’re killing it," he said when asked if they expected such a decision.
Still, it's unclear what this decision means for other live-service titles under Sony. Marathon by Bungie is also coming to Xbox, but Bungie is a standalone publisher, so we can't be sure about other titles.
Previously, it was revealed that Sony will have minimal impact on Arrowhead's next game. Thanks to players' support, it would be entirely self-funded, and the team will "call 100% of those shots.
