Pokémon Legends: Z-A Sells Nearly 50% Worse Than Scarlet/Violet

The most recent Pokémon game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, has sold 5.8 million copies over the first 4 days after its release.

Game Freak

In an official statement, The Pokémon Company shared that the number comprises both physical and digital units, with approximately half of the copies being for Nintendo Switch 2.

According to video game sales specialist Pierre485, Z-A sold about 50% fewer copies than Scarlet/Violet, which reached an impressive 10 million units in its first three days. Z-A also trails behind Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Sword/Shield, and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, which sold 6.5 million, 6 million, and 6 million copies, respectively, within the same three-day timeframe.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A was released on October 16 to mostly negative user reviews. Upon its release, the game's user score on Metacritic stood at 4.6 for Nintendo Switch 2, ranking lower than both parts of Pokémon Scarlet/Violet's The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. On the original Switch, the situation was even worse, with a score of 3.6 – below Pokémon Violet's 4.1 but slightly above Pokémon Scarlet's 3.5.
