Pokémon-Style Holographic Card Effect: Check Out Fuyuka, Shadow Striker
Kazehaya Fuyuka created a playing card using Clip Studio Paint Pro and Adobe After Effects.
Check out Fuyuka's stunning Balatro-inspired playing card with a Pokémon-style holographic reflection featuring the artist's original character. The card layout is reminiscent of Magic: The Gathering playing card design, making the artwork a triple homage to some of the most widely recognized card games.
Fuyuka, Shadow Striker, started as a study of Iron Fist’s Immortal Weapon of Agamotto skin in Marvel Rivals. The original artwork was created in Clip Studio Paint Pro using mostly a combination of soft and hard brushes available in the toolset.
3D Paint Texture brush was used to create realistic shadows on the character's clothes. To soften the edges, the artist used the Painterly Blender brush. The trippy, portal-like background was made with Grunge Line Fill and Grunge Line Texture.
The holographic effect was inspired by the Pokémon trading cards. Fuyuka used physical copies of the cards as a reference for the After Effects animation. As the artist explains, no keyframes were needed in the making of the holographic card animation – it took a few expressions to set up the effect.
"For the rotating card, I use cosine and sine functions with the same amp and freq for the X and Y axes," explains the author on X/Twitter.

Later, Fuyuka added sparkling holographic particles on top of the card to enhance the rainbow reflections. This is not a finished version, however, and once they figure out the blending modes and finalize the effect, the artist will share their working files on Gumroad. Right now, you can download Kazehaya Fuyuka's Star Particles Ex brush set used to create the rainbow sparkles.

As the creator states, their holographic card series came to life thanks to Simon Goellner's collection of advanced CSS styles for making holographic reflections. He is the one who made the Pokémon card holographic effects that Fuyuka used to design their character cards.
