Production of Forspoken Reportedly Cost Over $100 Million

The LinkedIn page of Forspoken's lead writer reveals the game's budget.

The production cost of Forspoken reportedly exceeded $100 million. That's according to the game's lead writer Allison Rymer who shared the figure on her LinkedIn profile.

As spotted by Twitter user Timur222, Rymer's LinkedIn page includes an interesting description of her experience at Luminous Productions, the developer of Forspoken, which states that she worked on a "fantasy AAA video game ($100,000,000+ budget) with release date set for Fall 2022" (Forspoken's release window before it was delayed for the second time).

The revelation that the production cost of Forspoken was over $100 million has sparked surprise on Twitter. Some users have expressed skepticism, suggesting that the figure must be a mistake as the game does not appear to justify such a high budget. Others are also questioning where all the money could have possibly gone, especially considering the mixed reviews that Forspoken has received.

Rymer's remarks were discovered a few days after Square Enix admitted that the game's sales have been "lackluster" so far and acknowledged that its reviews were "challenging". It's believed that the game's disappointing performance was a key factor in the decision to absorb its developer, Luminous Productions, back into Square Enix.
