PS5 Pro Is Reportedly in Development, Set to Release in 2024

According to Tom Henderson, this version of the gaming device would be distinct from the previously rumored model with a detachable disc drive.

The Pro version of PlayStation 5 is reportedly in development, and it is anticipated to be released tentatively towards the end of 2024.

That's according to industry insider Tom Henderson who previously reported that Sony was planning to release a new version of the console with a detachable disc drive which would replace the existing PlayStation 5 to reduce manufacturing and delivery expenses. This version of the gaming device is supposedly set to enter the market around September 2023.

In his latest report, the insider clarified that the version of PS5 with a removable disc drive is not the PS5 Pro model.

The PS5 Pro specs remain scarce, according to Henderson. However, a patent recently published by Mark Cerny, a PlayStation architect (spotted by the Twitter account Gamingnews), indicates that Sony is exploring ways to enhance ray tracing capabilities in video games.

Similar to the transition from the PS4 to the PS4 Pro, the insider makes an assumption that the PS5 Pro will boast improved visuals, performance, and speeds, compared to the standard PS5.

Additionally, Henderson claims that the next generation of Sony's console, PlayStation 6, will launch no earlier than 2028 which would follow the release pattern of its predecessors.
