Quixel Mixer Officially Discontinued
The latest version of Quixel Mixer has been released as a free, offline app, without official support.
Quixel Mixer has been abandoned for some time, leaving users speculating: some hoped Epic Games might turn it into something new, while others expected it to be shut down entirely. The end of an era is here: Quixel Mixer's final offline version has been released, with no further updates to follow.
"We want to give a big shout-out to all those who have used Mixer over the years. We've loved seeing what you create with it, and we've appreciated all your support and feedback", the announcement reads.
You can get this version by logging in to your account on the Quixel website. During installation, you can choose to download free asset packs, which include over 800 assets for use with Mixer. Older versions of the software are still available for download, but their functionality is not guaranteed.
Mixer has been around for nearly a decade and served as a free texturing tool for many artists. While it would be amazing to see it become open-source, at least having it available with 800 free assets is something.
