Cory Petkovsek previewed a feature from version 1.1.
Launched by Cory Petkovsek in 2023, Terrain3D for Godot Engine reached version 1.0 earlier this year and is steadily evolving to become one of the best terrain solutions available.
Cory has recently showcased a pull request by Xtarsia that he's working on for Terrain3D 1.1. In the demo video, the terrain started as simple 2D textures on flat geometry, but now it's tessellated near the camera with up to seven levels of detail. This is an amazing achievement, making it possible to create huge, real-time editable terrains in Godot.
This displacement feature works with Mobile, Web, and Compatibility renderers, and is compatible with Godot 4.4.1. If you'd like to learn more and follow its progress, check out the PR here.
According to Cory, Terrain3D 1.1 is expected to launch in November. Follow him on X/Twitter to stay updated on the development news and check out the official Discord server for all of Cory's projects.
