Come hell or high water, Jason Key's experiments will never cease to wow us.
Principal VFX Artist and JangaFX Evangelist Jason Key, whose jaw-dropping visual effects have been featured numerous times here on 80 Level, impresses us once again with his latest experiment.
This time, the maestro revealed a real-time 3D plane engine flameout simulation featuring intricately detailed fire and smoke VFX. According to Jason, these effects are currently too costly to implement in actual gameplay, but the team is working hard to overcome this challenge. As expected, the new sim was created using EmberGen, JangaFX's volumetric fluid simulation tool designed for simulating, rendering, and exporting flipbooks, image sequences, and VDB volumes.
Earlier, Jason also utilized EmberGen to create an absolutely other-worldly real-time nebula simulation in 3D:
And just recently, the artist offered a "wet" take on the three-body problem, a classical problem in physics, astronomy, and classical mechanics, using LiquiGen, the studio's node-based real-time fluid simulation software:
