Real-Time Backgrounds for Manga in UE4

Inio Asano shared his approach to creating manga backgrounds in UE4 and showed how it speeds up the production process.

Inio Asano is a manga artist with 10 years of experience in the industry. Recently, he has found the way he can use Unreal Engine in the manga production. The results are truly fascinating!

The game engine helps simplify the process by letting the artist create backgrounds in a short period of time. The assets are also reusable and can be adjusted later on, so the artist doesn’t have to spend time drawing it again from the beginning.

“There are a lot of foliage assets available for sale as building blocks, making it very easy to create a forest with just a few mouse clicks. I realized that I could draw a story set in these environments I created. When I use Unreal Engine, I actually reduce the quality of the renderings to make the images resemble hand-drawn manga artwork.”
