Realistic Eye Movement on 3D Monkey Model

Giovanni Manili completes his work on the eye shapes for Planet of the Apes' Caesar.

During 2025, 3D modeler Giovanni Manili was busy perfecting his 3D rig of Caesar from Planet of the Apes, making him move as realistically as possible. Now, he has finally completed a pass of 234 facial shapes for the eyes in collaboration with generalist Ramesh Shanker.

The artist used Simplex to manage the large number of shapes and a lattice deformer to introduce the cornea bulge under the eyelids.

The work is not fully done yet, but Manili says he is "quite satisfied" with the result and "eager to move on to other portions of the face."
