The company said that Saints Row's financial performance was in line with its expectations, however, it was disappointed with the game's reception.
Embracer Group has published an interim report for the second quarter of 2022 where it commented on the launch of the Saints Row reboot and shared some news regarding the release of Dead Island 2.
Figures mentioned in the report reflect that Embracer's net sales increased by 190%, and its PC and console games segment grew by 107% compared to Q2 2021. The company also noted that its organic growth during the quarter was 35% and attributed it to new PC and console releases.
One game in particular that Embracer noted was the Saints Row reboot which apparently saw pretty good sales. The company said that in financial terms, the game's performance was in line with management expectations.
However, Embracer highlighted that the reception of Saints Row didn't meet its expectations and "left the fanbase partially polarized." It also added that Volition, the studio that developed the game, is currently working hard to improve players' experience.
In addition, the Swedish holding shared that it made Volition part of Gearbox which can provide the studio with all the necessary tools and help it with expertise. Embracer noted that it is the first transfer of this kind, but it may not be the last.
Earlier, Embracer Group’s CEO Lars Wingefors also commented on the launch of Saints Row saying that the company was disappointed with the game's reception and noting that it had been "very polarising." The game was met with controversial reviews which caused Embracer's stock price to drop about 7% overnight.
Elsewhere, the Swedish holding said that the release of the long-awaited action RPG Dead Island 2 was delayed. The final version of the game was first revealed in August during Gamescom where the developer Dambuster Studios unveiled two new trailers and announced that the game would arrive on February 3, 2023. However, now the release date shifted to April 28, 2023.
