You'll learn how to use Houdini, Redshift, and After Effects to create, animate, and destroy using kitbashing, procedural modeling, animation, and more with Mike Stoliarov.
If you're looking to improve your destruction skills, DoubleJump Academy has the right workshop for you, in which you'll recreate that one Driller scene from Transformers: Dark of the Moon, featuring reportedly the most complex asset Industrial Light & Magic had done for Transformers by that point.
Over 20 hours and 7 modules, you'll work with Mike Stoliarov to model the Driller robot from scratch, using both kitbashed assets and Houdini's procedural modeling techniques. Then, you'll assemble the Driller's parts to prepare it for animation.

Next, you’ll animate the Driller in Houdini using KineFX to quickly match the original scene. After finishing the Driller, you'll prepare, name, and shatter a building model. The next step will be taking your Driller model and destruction-ready building into Houdini's Bullet solver and simulating the destruction.
Once the simulation is done, you'll add secondary effects like debris, smoke, fire, and sparks to make the shot more detailed and realistic. Finally, you'll render all the necessary passes in Redshift and complete the final compositing in After Effects.
This workshop is best for intermediate to advanced learners. When you sign up, you'll get instant access to all the materials and files. By the end, you'll have a great final shot, new skills, and the confidence to create your own awesome VFX.
