The new rating the game recently got in Brazil was a simple mistake.

In case you missed the news, earlier this week, it was revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games' beloved 2018 Wild West action-adventure game, got a new age rating in Brazil specifically for the Nintendo Switch, sparking speculation that, similar to the first installment, the second entry in the RDR series could potentially make its way to Nintendo's handheld platform sometime in the future.
The story, however, didn't end there. There's since been an update that cleared the air and dispelled any notions of Red Dead Redemption 2 making its way to Nintendo Switch. This revelation came to light thanks to Rockstar Games enthusiast Ben, who uncovered that the entire situation was a simple mistake made by the Brazilian rating board, which was promptly fixed by the board itself.
The reference to the Switch has been removed from the application listing for Red Dead Redemption 2, and it has instead been linked to a new listing for the original Red Dead Redemption, clarifying that the mention was originally intended for the first game in the series, not its sequel.
Ben also pointed out that there remains a chance for Red Dead Redemption 2 to find its way onto the Switch platform. However, if such a release were to occur, it would almost certainly be for Nintendo's forthcoming next-generation Switch 2 console due to the fact that the current hardware of Switch may not be capable of delivering the game with acceptable visuals.
Speaking of Nintendo Switch 2, it recently came to light that Nintendo discussed its upcoming next-gen handheld console with Activision all the way back in December 2022, nearly two years ahead of the console's expected launch, set to take place in the second half of 2024.
According to the internal emails shared as part of the FTC vs. Microsoft case, Nintendo higher-ups held an in-person meeting last year to brief Activision executives, including CEO Bobby Kotick, about the upcoming Nintendo Switch successor.
Prior to that, there were reports of Nintendo unveiling its next-generation console at the gamescom 2023 event held last month. However, this presentation was conducted discreetly, taking place behind closed doors and exclusively for a handpicked group of developers.
According to the reports, Nintendo privately showcased specially prepared tech demos to the invited developers. One of these demos was allegedly an enhanced version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, redesigned to fully exploit the new console's improved specifications.
