Red Dead Redemption Received 60 FPS on PS5 Thanks to the New Patch 1.3

This is the only version of the game that runs at this specific frame rate.

In a surprising move, shortly following its release on PlayStation platforms, Rockstar Games discreetly introduced a delightful surprise for PlayStation 5 users, which is a 60 FPS option. The newly-released patch 1.03 now allows PlayStation 5 owners, who are experiencing the game through PS4 backward compatibility, to savor Red Dead Redemption at a smooth frame rate. This is a first-time occurrence for this title within official parameters.

This unexpected patch arrived seemingly out of the blue, catching players off guard. Rockstar Games swiftly confirmed the addition of the new frame rate option through a subsequent tweet, fueling excitement among the gaming community.

After facing significant criticism upon its release, the latest update for Red Dead Redemption has been warmly embraced by fans. The backlash primarily centered around the game's lackluster performance improvements and its relatively high price point of $50, particularly given its absence of multiplayer functionality and a PC release. Adding to the frustration, Xbox Series X owners already enjoyed the advantage of playing Red Dead Redemption in 4K, and Microsoft platforms have long offered accessibility to the game through their backward compatibility feature on Xbox Series X and S.

Unfortunately, the inclusion of the coveted 60 FPS option remains exclusive to the PlayStation versions of Red Dead Redemption, leaving out Xbox and Switch players. Since its initial release in August for PS4, PS5, and Switch platforms, the game has only offered a single frame rate option of 30 FPS.

However, with the advent of the update 1.03, PS5 users can now relish the game at the smooth 60 FPS mark, alongside a multitude of general bug fixes and enhancements. Notably, the patch introduces an additional feature enabling players to activate subtitles during the initial game load.

Some more news on the game, recently, the game developer has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 is not coming to the Nintendo Switch. If you want to learn more, have a look at our recent article.
