Relaxing Simulator Game Where You Can Build Cute Italian Neighborhoods

Slava Korolev demonstrated a new gameplay system created in Unreal Engine 5 for the upcoming building simulator Monterona.

Solo Game Developer Slava Korolev has recently posted a new WIP demo for Monterona, an upcoming relaxing building simulator with non-photorealistic graphics, showcasing a brand-new gameplay system created for the title.

As shown in the demo, this new system allows players to freely move in-game windows, doors, and trees, expanding the range of creative approaches available in Monterona. The developer explained that the default placement is context-based, but as players discover all the options, each individual item can be placed freely. Much like the game itself, this novel mechanic was implemented using Unreal Engine 5.

As for the game itself, Monterona is a cozy simulator that lets you build cute, stylized Italian neighborhoods, complete with delightful houses, streets, lush gardens, canals, and special structures like pizzerias and movie theaters.

Featuring an uneven grid system, the game gives you the freedom to design distinctive landscapes that showcase your creativity and reflect your ideas. Furthermore, Monterona allows you to combine objects and structures, transforming them into novel and exciting constructions, thus adding depth and variety to your town.

Here are some of the earlier demos for Monterona shared by the developer:
