Its $50 price tag has won the favor of the fans.
Hangar 13 has announced that Mafia: The Old Country, the fourth installment in the franchise and the prequel to the original game, will launch on August 8. This aligns with the 2025 summer release window that was leaked last December. Accompanying this announcement is a brand-new gameplay trailer titled "Whatever it Takes."
The trailer gives us a chance to explore the various realistic locales in the game, "from dirt roads flanked by rural villages to dark catacombs, ornate mansions, and more." And game director Alex Cox has described the game's combat as "grounded, era-appropriate," where knife combat was taken to a whole new level with one-on-one duels.
When talking about the game, David Ismailer, President of publisher 2K, said that the game will provide "compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments." Also, players can expect to embrace "a linear highly-polished narrative experience."

Pre-orders are available now on all the platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. What has greatly surprised fans is its $49.99 price tag, which is lower than the typical $70, not to mention the new high of $80. Needless to say, it has encouraged players to be there on day one. The Deluxe Edition, which offers additional bonus items, costs $60.
Set in Sicily in the 1900s, the game revisits the franchise's roots. If you're interested in learning the considerations behind the decision, Nick Baynes, president of developer Hangar 13, and game director Alex Cox explained it some time ago.
