Remedy Entertainment: Alan Wake 2 Is Going to Be an "Excellent" Game

The Finnish developer provided updates on its projects, saying that Alan Wake 2 will launch as an "excellent game" and that the Control co-op game already "feels fun".

Remedy Entertainment has released a new financial report today providing updates on the studio's future projects including the sequel to Alan Wake.

The studio's CEO Tero Virtala reiterated that Alan Wake 2 is currently in full production confirming that it is still scheduled for the 2023 release. The studio head noted that there's still a lot of work remaining but the game is already "coming together on all fronts."

"User testing continues and the feedback from the user research has been encouraging. After seeing how the elements are coming together, I’m confident we will launch an excellent game," Virtala said.

Alan Wake 2 was first announced at last year's The Game Awards. It will be Remedy's first survival horror game with the developers promising it to deliver a "chilling experience with familiar psychological horror elements." The game will be published by Epic Games and will be available on PC via the Epic Games Store. It will also release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X.

In addition, the studio head shared that Remedy currently has five projects in development saying that each of them "has the potential to be a major success."

One of the most recent projects is Max Payne 1&2 Remake developed in collaboration with Rockstar Games, which was announced in April 2022. According to Virtala, the game is being developed by a small core team so it is likely the furthest from completion of all of Remedy's projects.

Virtala also spoke about two Control games, codenamed "Condor" and "Heron". The studio head said that Condor, a spin-off game of Control, is still in the proof-of-concept stage noting that the designs, the team is now prototyping, and gameplay already "feel fun" in this stage. As for Heron, a bigger-budget Control game, it is now in the concept stage, and the team that is working on it has been gradually increased based on "the well-progressing early development."

The free-to-play co-operative game codenamed Vanguard, which will be co-published with Tencent, continues in the proof-of-concept stage. As communicated in August, the team decided to "take extra time" in developing the project to "ensure it can be completed according to the high-quality standards set for this game."

Virtala reiterated that it is the reason why Remedy is keeping the game longer in the proof-of-concept phase and said that the studio will not expand the development team until 2023.

"Vanguard will be an expansive service-based F2P game with a rich world and selected new elements, making it a game that stands out from other multiplayer games," he said. "We want to make sure all these elements merge together in the right way before we make final decisions on the plans for the next development phase in 2023."
