Alan Wake 2 was released a year ago and has struggled with sales for a while. Fans think it's because of the game's humble marketing campaign as well as its digital-only option and the decision to distribute it via the Epic Games Store and not Steam.
In its latest financial report, Remedy announced that Alan Wake 2 had finally recouped most of its development and marketing costs, and even though it is not generating royalties yet, this is fantastic news for the company.
"Alan Wake 2 continues to be a success for Remedy," IGN said in its article, but Remedy's communications director Thomas Puha doesn't think it can be called that successful.
"Not sure that's continued success, but anyway!" he said on X/Twitter.
Anyway, now the road is up only, and the title will generate profit at last. The studio had sold 1.3 million copies of Alan Wake 2 by March 20 and hasn't shared other numbers since. It has recently partnered with Annapurna, which will fund 50% of the development cost for Control 2 and get the movie and TV rights of both the Control and Alan Wake franchises.
