The sales of the Resident Evil 4 remake in the UK were 29% higher than those of the GameCube original.
New GfK data (via GamesIndustry.biz) reveals that the remake of Resident Evil 4 was the most successful game among all titles in UK retail during the week from March 19 to March 25.
The game has become the eighth-largest boxed launch of the Resident Evil franchise in the UK, surpassing the GameCube original's week-one sales. The remake has achieved a 29% increase in sales compared to the original, which was released in March 2005.
Although the original game was released on a less popular and single platform, its sales were entirely physical. And the remake is expected to have significant digital sales, although these are not included in the current report and will be available later in the week.
The sales of the Resident Evil 4 remake are lower than those of more recent titles, with a 23% decline compared to Resident Evil Village released in 2021 and a 38% drop compared to 2019's Resident Evil 2 remake. However, the game managed to surpass the sales of the 2020 Resident Evil 3 remake by 38%.
Interestingly, among the three remakes released since 2019, the Resident Evil 4 remake is the only one to have exceeded the sales of its original launch.
The second place on the chart was taken by Hogwarts Legacy, with a 31% decline in sales compared to the previous week. FIFA 23 secured the third spot, experiencing an 11% increase in circulation, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II climbed to the sixth position, registering a 40% surge in sales.
It's worth mentioning Sonic Frontiers, which witnessed a staggering 217% growth in sales, propelling it to the 16th position on the chart.
