The VR edition of the game will be available on the PSVR 2 launch day.
Resident Evil Village VR will launch on February 22, 2023, at the same time as PlayStation VR2, Capcom and PlayStation have revealed. The VR mode will arrive as a DLC and will be available for free for everyone who owns the standard Resident Evil Village or its Gold Edition.
The PSVR2 edition of Resident Evil Village was first announced this summer at Sony's State of Play 2022. At the time, Sony noted that the entire campaign would be brought to VR, with eye tracking, 4K HDR, and PS5’s 3D Audio.
In addition to the PS VR2 headset, players will use the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers representing each hand in-game, which means players will need to raise their arms to lock if they want the character to do the same. The game will also feature new gameplay elements like dual-wielding and natural motion controls for reloading firearms and fighting with knives.
"Visually, the vivid graphics of the 4K HDR display (2000×2040 per eye) and eye tracking produces a heightened perception of reality as if everything you see is actually there," Capcom's producer Kanda Tsuyoshi wrote in the latest PlayStation blog. "3D audio enhances the realism with audio from every angle, and your sense of touch is enhanced via the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. With one controller in each hand, you can feel the vibration, recoil, and resistance as you interact with objects in the world and fire weapons."
