The studio didn't know about the Spectrum Phantom problems until recently.
Competitive games players are usually quick to tell the developers about anything they have an issue with, but it wasn't the case this time in Valorant. The game's Associate Producer Robin Silk said he had just recently learned about the "pay-to-lose" Spectrum Phantom weapon skin that pro players don't use because of its length: the barrel is a little longer than with other skins, which gives the enemies a chance to notice you sooner.
Silk learned about this little detail while talking to Mistic, a pro-level player, and didn't believe him at first, but after other players confirmed this, he was shocked and asked the premium content team to fix the problem.
"So there is like, this cabal of pros that knows about this bug, so NO ONE is using the phantom in pro play," he said. "It was just funny to me that these guys all knew about this and didn't report it to any Rioters."
Silk then encouraged Valorant players to report any bugs they encounter to Riot. The Spectrum Phantom skin has been fixed in the recent patch, but who knows how many tiny issues there still are that affect the professional community.
