Rise of Rebellion, an action RPG developed by Team 疾鷹 and published by Kodansha, was released on April 21, and a week after, its developer Hytacka commented on the game's performance, pointing out that it didn't meet his expectations.
In a recent YouTube video, the game's developer shared (via Automaton): "The results are not good." He then added, "In terms of what my goal was, I would say it bombed completely." The developer didn't mention the specific numbers but cited the commonly used formula of estimating the number of sold copies, according to which the number of reviews is multiplied by 30. Following this method, 131 Steam reviews multiplied by 30 leads to around 4,000 copies sold. The developer's goal was 100,000 copies, and the first week's numbers show a modest beginning.

The developer also comments on the game's reviews. "Like the reviews say, the quality was disappointing," he said. The player feedback on Steam is controversial, as the game's rating is labeled "Mixed," with 41% of 131 reviews being positive. However, players have praised the RPG's combat, pointing out that it is reminiscent of Sekiro and features an entertaining combo system. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game indeed boasts a smooth combat system and focuses on a more strategic approach to battles.
The creator expects to receive less support from the publisher, but doesn't lose his ambition to create big projects and intends to continue working. "Honestly, it'll probably be a while before I get to a point where I have something to show," he notes.
However, Rise of Rebellion was released only a week ago, so the estimation might still be preliminary. As more players spend time with the game, opinions could change and offer a more complete picture.
