Roblox to Feature Generative AI-Powered Tools

The team plans to roll out the first two tests of the tools in the coming weeks.

Roblox's Chief Technology Officer Daniel Sturman has recently shared a new blog post announcing that the team is currently working on generative AI-powered tools, planning to "revolutionize creation on the platform" and simplify and accelerate the process of creating experiences and assets in Roblox Studio.

A short demo released alongside the blog post demonstrated the tools' capabilities, showing the first one being able to generate materials from text prompts and the second one boasting the ability to generate code "to help increase development velocity."

According to Sturman, tools powered by generative AI can help make creation intuitive and natural for users and be directly embedded into experiences, allowing Roblox users to create unique content that can be shared across the platform. The first two tests of the tools shown in the demo are set to be rolled out in the coming weeks.

"We have already heard from Roblox creators about how they are using this technology to create," commented Sturman. "However, these off-the-shelf AI systems are not integrated with our platform and they often do not produce 'Roblox ready' output that requires substantial follow-on work from a creator. We see an incredible opportunity to build generative AI tools and APIs focused on Roblox."

"As we do this," he continued, "we remain aware of the need to implement generative AI thoughtfully and ethically on the Roblox platform, in line with the value we have always placed on respecting our community. We are committed to using diverse and robust data sets to limit biased content and encourage safe and high-quality content output."
