Roblox Will Allow Developers to Sell Their Games for Real Money

The revenue share will depend on the game's price.

On Friday, David Baszucki, the CEO of Roblox, announced at the Roblox Developers Conference that the company plans to let some developers sell their games for real money instead of digital currency.

The amount of money that developers will keep depends on the game's cost. Games that cost $9.99 will bring the developers a 50% payout, and the ones that cost $29.99 and $49.99 correspond to the payouts of 60% and 70%. David Baszucki said that the company plans to support 10% of the global gaming content revenue.

The objective is "to increase the appeal of the platform to existing developers," explained Manuel Bronstein, as reported by CNBC. According to Bronstein, the new system might create an "incentive" for the developers who “want to do something more grandiose.” "To participate in the broader gaming market, we need to branch out to all the forms of the gaming market," the CPO said.

The new economics will be implemented for desktop this year.
