Fans have spotted potential hints at the number 27 in Rockstar's social media messages and the Grand Theft Auto trailer, creating what is named on the Internet as the "27 theory." Some believe this could indicate the release date for a new GTA 6 trailer on December 27.
For instance, some have noticed indications of the date in a Twitter post of a Mission Designer Reckope. On a sheet of paper spotted in a photo, there's an inscription that reads "1227," which might refer to the said date.
Also, Rockstar keeps the number of posts on its Instagram page equal to 27, deleting old posts before publishing the new ones. Okami Games suggested that Rockstar might be playing along with the fan theory, stirring up the interest:
Another possible hint, according to fans, might be hidden in one of the released GTA trailers, with the numbers on the right top of the screen add up to 12 and 27, not considering 500:
One of the most unexpected hints seems to be found in a number of an indentification order of Bonnie and Clyde, spotted by a Reddit user insightangel. The number is 1227, which can be also read as 12/27, again allegedly referring to the date:
However, though there are a lot of peculiar coincidences, this theory has to be taken with a grain of salt, as there's no official information neither on the release date of the trailer nor on the references to the number 27 as well.
One of the previously existing fan theories about the GTA game turned out to be a supposition without a hidden backstory. This refers to the mural on Mount Chiliad in Grand Theft Auto 5 that featured what seemed to be alien symbols. Ben Hinchliffe, a former Designer at Rockstar, supposed this detail was added to the game "just to mess with people."
