Apple's new Swift API utilizes the camera and LiDAR Scanner.
Apple introduced RoomPlan – a new Swift API that uses the camera and LiDAR Scanner on iPhone or iPad to create a 3D floor plan of a room, including key characteristics such as dimensions and types of furniture.
The company says you can use the real-time created rooms in interior design, architecture, real estate, e-commerce, and more. The app can help customers make more informed decisions or streamline conceptual exploration and planning.
RoomPlan outputs in USD or USDZ file formats that include dimensions of each component recognized in the room, such as walls or cabinets, as well as the type of furniture detected. The dimensions and placement of each component can be adjusted when exported into various tools, such as Cinema 4D, Shapr3D, or AutoCAD.
Apple recommends using the tool in single residential rooms with lighting no less than 50 lux. Mirrors and glass, high ceilings, and dark surfaces can pose a challenge to the tech.
The tool is still in beta, but you can download the code here. Also, don't forget to join our new Reddit page, our new Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we are sharing breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
