It was designed to "compete with Hogwarts Legacy."

The Lord of the Rings fans, rejoice! A new game in the franchise is in development, according to Insider Gaming's sources, and it's pretty ambitious.
People close to the game say that it will be a third-person action that is designed to "compete with Hogwarts Legacy," whatever that means.
If everything goes as planned, the game will be partially funded by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), which will give about $100 million to production. The agreement has been in the works since last year and should be made official "soon." For now, the game is funded internally.
Aside from ADIO, multiple studios are reportedly involved with the title, including Embracer, which bought the rights to the games in the franchise for $396 million in 2023, and Revenge.
The latest LOTR games were Gollum, Return to Moria, and Tales of the Shire, and while the latter two received a fair share of positive attention, Gollum will forever stay as one of the worst games in our minds. Hopefully, this new adventure will be much better.
