Rumor: Ubisoft is Working on an XCOM-Like Rainbow Six Game
It is unclear whether the title will be published by Ubisoft or by the studio's new subsidiary established in collaboration with Tencent.
Doing the opposite of what Bethesda did with Fallout and planning to give an FPS game franchise a top-down installment, Ubisoft is allegedly working on a new turn-based tactics game set in the same universe as its tactical shooter series, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six.

As reported by Tom Henderson, citing two sources familiar with the project, the new title will feature a top-down view similar to XCOM, allowing players to take control of Rainbow Six Siege operators. The gameplay loop is said to be similar to Rainbow Six Siege, with players selecting different operators based on their skills to raid buildings, rescue hostages, and such.
The game's total length is allegedly targeting around 25 to 30 hours, depending on player skill. However, Henderson noted that this could change, suggesting that if the game does exist, it is currently in its early stages of development.
"Just watch some XCOM gameplay if you want to get an idea," one insider said about the new Rainbow Six title's gameplay. "I'd say it's an updated version of that with cinematic cutscenes and so on."
The report further states that the upcoming Rainbow Six title is reportedly still one or two years away but is targeting a release on current-gen platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and possibly Nintendo Switch 2.
Although the game falls under the Rainbow Six IP, it is currently unclear whether the title will be published by Ubisoft or by the studio's new subsidiary established in collaboration with Tencent, presumably due to the uncertainty surrounding the deal and Ubisoft itself stating they have no idea yet how it will be handled.
Just recently, minority shareholder AJ Investments, along with a group of investors, announced the start of legal proceedings to compel Ubisoft to allow all shareholders to vote on a direct asset sale to Tencent. Depending on the court's ruling and the investors' subsequent vote, it's entirely possible that the XCOM-like Rainbow Six title could eventually be developed and released by the Chinese gaming giant, however, much like everything related to the Ubisoft-Tencent partnership, how it will ultimately unfold is currently impossible to predict.
