Sébastien Deguy, the Creator of Substance 3D, Launches a New Studio

Founded in collaboration with Ryan Corniel, Sans Strings Studio will focus on the creation of digital puppets.

Following his recent departure from Adobe, Sébastien Deguy, the creator of Substance 3D and former Head of 3D at Adobe, has now opened a new chapter in his professional life and embraced his creative side by announcing the formation of a brand-new animation and gaming company, dubbed Sans Strings Studio.

Founded in collaboration with Ryan Corniel, a talented Animator and Gameplay Artist best known for his digital puppets, Sans Strings Studio plans to focus primarily on elevating the art of digital puppeteering to new heights. As stated by the creative duo, the digital puppeteering system they utilize is capable of transforming human movement into instant character animation, with performers having the ability to control expressions and movements in real-time.

In his statement, Deguy also revealed the newly-formed studio has already secured Pre-Seed funding from A16Z GAMES and will be joining their incubator program Speedrun 005, running from July through October.

"I feel incredibly fortunate to begin this new adventure with Ryan, and I'm stunned by the industry's feedback and level of anticipation we have received already," Sans Strings Studio CEO says. "Companies pivot, and so do people, I guess. I couldn't be more excited and feel more aligned with myself as I make this turn, embracing the beautiful uncertainty and chaos that comes with creating. Today, I'm taking my chance, and I am ready to rumble!"
