Each character frame seen in the game was physically embroidered in real life.
In today's era, as game development approaches become more an more explored, it becomes increasingly difficult to amaze the audiences with never-before-seen ideas, but if developers do manage to create something truly unique, the game can instantly become beloved by everyone even before its release, all thanks to the creativity and ingenuity of its authors, as exemplified by one such game that has recently been generating a buzz all over the Internet.
Meet Scarlet Deer Inn, an upcoming action-adventure/2D platformer inspired by Studio Ghibli's animated films and Slavic folclore. Being developed by Attu Games, a two-person team consisting from a husband and wife from the Czech Republic, the game features a distinctive approach to character animations that has never been attempted by any game developer – all of Scarlet Deer Inn's characters and creatures were physically embroidered in real life.
According to a short demo shared by the team's Eva Navratilova, each character frame drawn, stitched in real life, scanned, cropped, and then added to the game, where it gets outlines and shadows. As stated by the developer, they "tried many ways including embroidering the whole scene, not using outlines, etc." and the game's visual depiction seen in the demos and trailers "looks best while still looking embroidered."
As for the game's story, Scarlet Deer Inn puts you in the shoes of Elise, a mother of two, who's not a hero by any means but is forced to explore places full of unusual and interesting, but also dark and evil events. Throughout the game, you will meet lots of interesting characters and experience their unforgettable stories, enjoying gorgeous hand-painted backgrounds and medieval-inspired folk music played on traditional instruments in the process.
At the moment, the game's release date remains undisclosed, with the team only saying that they plan to release it for PC and Switch. You can learn more and wishlist Scarlet Deer Inn by clicking this link.
