Yaroslav Hahalev finished work on his floating creature, and it turned out to be something we didn't expect: an unusual, creepy mermaid from nightmares.

"This time I finally tried a simple skeleton and some animation. I also refined my modeling approach a bit. Everything was done by hand, with the intention of putting my own perspective into every stage of developing this kind of character."

He turned a 2D sketch into a fine character, and his ArtStation has a breakdown of the work if you're interested in the steps. The most important part, he says, is finding a strong image – you can see what he picked.
