Niantic
Pokémon GO and other Niantic games will be sold to Scopely, the American game company known for MONOPOLY GO!, Stumble Guys, MARVEL Strike Force, at $3.5 billion.
The recent announcement states that the acquisition will concern Niantic's entire game business, which includes its game development teams, titles such as Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now, and companion apps and services Campfire and Wayfarer.
Niantic's game studio leaders Kei Kawai and Ed Wu will continue guiding their projects within the framework of the new company. Ed Wu shared that the entire Pokémon GO team stays together through the partnership.
Pokémon GO is one of the most successful mobile games, with more than 20 million weekly active players. It remained among the top 10 mobile games each year since it was released in 2016. As for the future of the game, Ed Wu noted that the game would not be changed but noted that it is a natural process and the developers would continue following their creative approach: "I won't say that Pokémon GO will remain the same, because it has always been a work in progress. But how we create and evolve it will remain unchanged, and I hope that we can make the experience even better for all of you."
