See What Moana Looked Like in Animated Pencil Test

Eric Goldberg breathed the soul into this hand-drawn piece.

Pencil tests are always fascinating, but one from the famous animator Eric Goldberg is especially precious. In an animation shared by Vincent Alexander, you can see what the scene with Moana interacting with a wave could have been.

The final animation omitted some fun details, unfortunately, but the scene is still adorable. While the movie eventually shifted to 3D, you can see Goldberg's hand-drawn work in Maui's tattoos.

Apart from Moana, Goldberg has worked on Wish, The Simpsons, The Princess and the Frog, Tom and Jerry, Aladdin, and other animated shows.

Interested in more early animation? Check out pencil tests for The Princess and the Frog, The Little Mermaid, and Fantasia.
