If GameMaker is your game engine of choice, the developers have just shared their Spring 2026 update, offering a look at what they've been working on and the improvements planned for the future of GameMaker. Of particular interest may be GMRT, a new runtime built from the ground up that has already been in beta for some time.
Desktop platforms are expected to exit beta in the "coming months", while mobile and console support will roll out gradually over the remainder of the year. The GMRT desktop, mobile, and web source code will be made publicly available for all users.
The team is currently working on general improvements to GMRT's 3D handling, with the first of these updates expected to arrive in version 0.20 in Q2. Support for importing data from glTF files will be added, with more formats planned over time. A Scene Graph system will also be introduced, simplifying the creation and management of 3D worlds and making it easier to build complex environments.
GameMaker is also introducing GM-CLI, a new command-line toolchain that works with both the new and existing runtimes. It allows interaction with a project at multiple levels, from simple actions like build, run, and compile, to more advanced: creating projects, adding sprites, or attaching events to objects.

A language roadmap has also been unveiled, with JavaScript, TypeScript, and C# set to be added before the end of the year.
The LTS26 version is planned to roll out over five major releases, starting this May and running through to early 2028. Along the way, several IDE plug-ins will be introduced and updated. These are separate from regular IDE updates and will be available through the Package Manager as each update goes live.
