It seems that we may be getting the Crazy Taxi reboot in the AAA scope, as Takaya Segawa, Sega's Senior Executive Officer and the President of its internal studio, Sapporo Studio, which is responsible for the upcoming reboot, stated in a recent interview.
Discussing the development of big projects Sapporo is working on, Segawa mentioned that one of these big Triple-A titles is Crazy Taxi.
"We're responsible for titles such as Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! in cooperation with the bases in Tokyo and overseas. We are also participating in the development of Triple-A titles, including Crazy Taxi (a recently announced reboot of the arcade classic)," Segawa says to The Japan Times.
In April 2022, Bloomberg reported that Sega considered rebooting its old hits Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio to repeat the financial success of Fortnite and bring those legends back to life.
Adding to that, a couple of months ago, Sega shared that the new Crazy Taxi will feature "innovative and fresh style driving action" that will allow players to dive into a "cheerful feeling of freedom" combined with the "fusion of nature and city".
Also, at The Game Awards 2023, Sega officially revealed the new Crazy Taxi taxi game and shared a sneak peek at it. The studio also intends to launch Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Ax, and Streets of Rage reboots in the upcoming years.
